The Cold War was a period in history when there was global nuclear tension between the USA & its Allies and
the Soviet Union & their allies. The period lasted between 1947 and 1991, after the fall of the Soviet Union.

During this time there were various sites across Europe holding nuclear weapons, one of which was Upper Heyford in Oxfordshire, England.
At the time Upper Heyford was a United States Airforce Base and was the third most secure facility in the whole of Great Britain.
